Character:

Occupation: Engineer / Inventor / Workshop Keeper / Problem Solver

Home: A small, remote settlement situated along a well-traveled route used by explorers, merchants, and adventurers to replenish supplies before continuing their journeys.

Personality

Kezari is thoughtful, observant, and exceptionally patient.
She rarely rushes to offer answers. Instead, she listens first, watches carefully, and asks questions others often overlook. Rather than assuming she understands a problem immediately, she prefers to see it in action before attempting a solution.

Despite her reputation, she never claims certainty. If someone asks, "can you fix it?" her answer is almost always: "I can certainly try." To her, every problem deserves an honest attempt.

She possesses a quiet sense of humor that often catches people off guard. She enjoys solving unusual problems, but never treats the people bringing them as inconveniences. Every strange request is simply another puzzle waiting to be understood.

Philosophy: Kezari doesn't believe every problem has the same solution. Before sketching ideas or reaching for tools, she almost always asks: "Show me how you do it now."

She believes the best solutions come from understanding how someone actually lives rather than how they should live. As a result, nearly everything she builds is custom-made.

Workshop

Kezari operates a wonderfully chaotic workshop in a remote settlement frequented by travelers and adventurers.

Shelves overflow with unfinished projects, spare gears, enchanted crystals, worn leather straps, replacement joints, polished tools, mysterious relics awaiting examination, and countless labeled boxes whose contents only she seems to remember.

To outsiders, the workshop appears impossibly cluttered. To Kezari... everything has its place.

Residents rarely refer to it by any formal name. It's simply: The Workshop.

Reputation

Among the settlement's residents, Kezari isn't famous, she's simply trusted.

When someone encounters a problem no one else understands, the advice is almost always the same: "go ask Kezari."
She has become the person people recommend not because she always succeeds, but because she never dismisses a problem without first trying to understand it.

Visitors sometimes arrive expecting an inventor or others expect a miracle worker. Most leave realizing she's something much simpler, someone willing to sit with a problem until it finally makes sense.

Disability

Kezari is missing one forepaw, several toes on one hind foot, and has lost sight in one eye. She wears custom prosthetics of her own design and continues refining them over time.
Within the settlement, these prosthetics are considered entirely ordinary. The residents know her for her work, not for her injuries.

New visitors occasionally stare or ask questions after meeting her. The locals usually respond with little more than a shrug, "didn't stop her from fixing your problem, did it?"

Engineering

Kezari specializes in practical engineering enhanced through magic. Rather than creating elaborate inventions, she focuses on solving everyday problems through carefully tailored designs.

Her workshop has produced:

  • mobility aids
  • prosthetic limbs
  • custom tools
  • adaptive equipment
  • reinforced carts
  • enchanted mechanical repairs
  • countless one-of-a-kind solutions

No two projects are exactly alike.

The Big Book of Problems

One of Kezari's most treasured possessions is an enormous, weathered journal. Its original title has long since faded beneath years of notes and repairs.
The settlement affectionately refers to it as "Kezari's Big Book of Problems."

Inside are hundreds of pages documenting unusual requests, failed experiments, observations, sketches, and eventual solutions. Nothing is ever erased.
Every solved problem remains recorded, often becoming the key to solving another years later.

Some entries are perfectly ordinary. Others read like complete nonsense:

  • "Bridge sings only after heavy rain."
  • "River spirits changed the current again."
  • "Do not let children combine unstable crystals."
  • "Cart only breaks when carrying mushrooms."

Only Kezari seems capable of finding exactly the page she needs.

Name

Kezari was chosen for its distinctive, memorable sound. While not intended as a direct real-world name, it draws inspiration from Sanskrit phonetics.
Ritam is inspired by the Sanskrit concept of Ṛta (Rta), the natural order that allows the world to function in harmony. Rather than representing destiny or prophecy, the name reflects Kezari's quiet role in everyday life: restoring balance when ordinary things stop working.

Whether it's a damaged prosthetic, an enchanted lift, a broken cart, or a magical waterwheel, her work is less about invention for its own sake and more about helping the world function again.
